The Modern Houses of Westside KCK

November 5th, 2012

The CD and I indulged in an overnight get-away to KC to celebrate my birthday this year.  We had a fabulous time watching my nephew in a play, eating breakfast on the Plaza and lunch in the west-side neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. There are some great little eateries in this neighborhood and one amazing bakery called “Fervere”. If you are even in this neck of the woods, you must promise me you will stop and buy a loaf of orchard bread. SO GOOD!

It was very hard to pick a restaurant, but ultimately we went with Los Alamos Market and Cocina where we filled our bellies with tamales, rice, beans, and carnitas!  Yummy!  Afterwards we went for a stroll around this charming little neighborhood to check out the modern architecture interspersed with the lovely older homes.  Here are a few of my favorites…

Here’s an example of what most of the homes in this neighborhood look like.

But every once in a while a terrifically modern home pops up.  There seems to be a bit of a modern meme going on.

Please to note the goat.

Love the use of color on this one.

Love that egg. Don’t know what it means… but I love it.

Boxwood gone bananas!

Come to think of it… all tree houses sort of lean towards the modern side of architecture.

  • I love KC in the Fall. Hall’s is my client and once business is finished, I always take time to stroll The Plaza. A very cool place especially when they light it up for the holidays. And the Marriott around the corner isn’t so bad either.
