Doing Some Good

January 31st, 2011

My eldest son’s basketball team sported pink shoestrings at a recent game to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.

  • Bonnie:

Wow! I was totally unaware of breast cancer before this pink shoelace incident.

  • That is so cool! It’s nice to see the school, coach, whomever is teaching the kids to be philantropic.

  • Jay:

Very fun picture. Im happy to see schools promoting awareness and raising money for things like this. It helps teach the kids the importance of helping others before they become jaded adults like the rest of us. :)

  • JudyB:

    Neat idea.

  • Patricia:

Great idea, good way to get young people to think outside of themselves.

    Good for them !

  • LucyJoy:

That’s awesome! I’ve been sporting a pink streak in my hair since September when my niece was diagnosed with breast cancer; 10 days after her father (my brother) was diagnosed with lung cancer (he’s never smoked). They’re both doing great!

    • MrsD:

That is a very cool thing to do, LucyJoy! The color for lung cancer is silver, so maybe you could do two streaks.

(HA! I’ve finally figured it out! Hubby is sporting all that gray hair to bring awareness to lung cancer! He’ll be SO glad to know that! LOL)

      • LucyJoy:

I thought about doing a silver streak, but my hair is light blonde & I don’t think it would be that noticable. I get a lot of comments regarding my pink streak, so I always make sure to tell people the whys & wherefores.
