A Halloween Party in the Barn

October 31st, 2010

We hosted a middle school Halloween party in the barn.

Guess whose kid wore his little brother’s gingerbread man costume?

It really was a fun party.  The kids danced for three straight hours.

We interspersed the dancing with a few activities.  We used a PVC pipe for a limbo stick, took the kids out on a star-lit hike through a pasture that was literally crawling with zombies and chainsaw wielding madmen, and even hosted a little ‘Project Runway Halloween’ in which the kids had to work in a group to transform a sack full of odd, old clothes into a fabulous ensemble and ‘make it work’.

They had such a good time and enjoyed themselves so much that I have decided from now on….

I am only partying with seventh graders.

  • Margaret Feyh:

Kasey had a really fun time!! Thanks for being the brave parent to host a party for 7th graders!!!

    • Rechelle:

The kids were really good. Seventh graders – who knew?

  • DirtyKSmama - Nikki:

SOOOO relieved to see The Orange Dress wasn’t involved in the “odd, old clothes.” I would start questioning your judgement.

    • Rechelle:

That’s because I was wearing it. Can’t miss an opportunity to haul that thing out of the closet.

  • Martha in Kansas:

I love the gingerbread man costume! So gawky looking!

I think I want to party with the 7th graders too! Think they’d notice an older lady in their midst?

  • I host a “teen halloween party” at the library every year, and it’s mostly middle school kids. This year – almost all girls. Catty, competitive, snotty girls… well, just one of them, but she kind of set the tone.

Your party looks like a lot more fun than ours!

  • km:

I would love to see video. Kids are a hoot. We hear a bajillion scary stories about teens and then we are around them and they’re good kids. Too much fearmongering nowadays, harumph!!!

  • susan:

The Project Runway project for this party was inspired! I would love to see what they came up with.

  • Jeanette:

What fun! Dancing, laughter, goodies – and a few zombies thrown in for the required fright o’ the night. Halloween in the Heartland – love it.

  • Looks like fun!!! I’m impressed.
