At Long Last – The Winners for The Lost Symbol and an Uncle Dave Update!

October 30th, 2009

I finally got around to randomly choosing some winners for a book giveaway that is so long overdue it is practically an ancient mystery that could almost qualify as a very boring side story in a Dan Brown book. At the last minute, I threw in another book too. Visit Farmhouse Library to see if you won.

In other news…

Uncle Dave is 100% okay.

Here is an email he sent last week…
Went back to my surgeon today and got the lab report. According to the lab report we caught the Melanoma In-Situ (pre-stage 1) and he was able to cut it out with wide enough margins that I should not have to worry about it coming back. Thank you for all the kind words and prayers during this tough couple of weeks. I am really lucky that Karrabi had me go get it checked out before it got out of hand….THANK YOU KARRABI!!!!!! I look forward to seeing you all at Steve’s this weekend.

Uncle Dave

And here are a few photos to go with Uncle Dave’s update…

The scar…

The hug…

That’s Karrabi, Dave’s wife.

The mullet…

It really was time for an update, even if it involved facial surgery.

Glad you are all bettah Dave!

  • DirtyKSmama - Nikki:

Congrats to Dave and family on being cancer-free! Love the scar.

    Cancer sucks,
Nikki – who just spent her morning with a family member in the chemo room at a cancer center

  • Fran:

glad to hear that Uncle Dave is the victor! If anyone can lose the mullet, then it’s a cinch to lose the cancer!

  • Thank God for the Karrabi’s of the world !!! Our men, where would they be? I know, probably sexist, but true! Yea Uncle Dave.

  • Wow! Thank God they removed that mullet while they were getting at the melanoma!

I’m glad to see he’s doing well. That pic of him with his wife is worth a thousand words. It’s a good reminder to take care of ourselves because each of us is that important to someone. I’m just sure of it.

Today I took my mom for her post surgery follow-up. She has a hole the size of a baseball (well, a flat baseball) on the side of her face. The graft is looking good, though. The doctor and nurses looked at me a little oddly when I asked questions about the ointment, bandages, and graft, so I didn’t think photos would be welcome. I’m now considering buying some sunscreen.

  • Lunamarysol:

Very glad to hear Uncle Dave is doing well and has no more cancer!

    Thanks for letting us know!

  • Yay! I’m glad Uncle Dave went in and got it looked at. I had Melanoma In-Situ removed from my leg a year or so ago. I feel like I dodged a bullet!

  • Oh, and for insurance purposes? Uncle Dave never had cancer! :)
