How are your Thanksgiving preparations going? Mine are coming together very nicely, now that the Oracle Known as Steve is in his rightful place.
Thanks Linda for your passionate and honest message. I will pick a winner for the Frank Schaeffer book tonite. Tweet
I was introduced to the writing of Frank Schaeffer via his book Crazy For God several years ago. I loved the book and wrote about it here. On that post, a reader left a comment asking me if I had read any of Schaeffer’s fiction books. I had not and I tucked that comment away in my brain in hopes that someday it would resurface at just the exactly right moment when I was in need of a new book [...]
We hosted Thanksgiving this year. Twenty-seven of my husband’s closest relatives stayed at our house for four days. We went hiking and played board games and watched ballgames and went to the movies and The Oracle Known as Steve staged a coup and tried to take over my kitchen, but I bravely fended him off with a carving knife, a rusty old egg beater and a very pokey meat thermometer. And yet, even as he bled out from oozing puncture [...]
Because the Christmas tree photo was getting a wee bit tiresome.
With mincing alacrity, Dear Charles takes on Lee Strobel’s “The Case for Christ” and startling questions arise!!!

you really are nuts. i appreciate that quality in a person.
ME, too! I vote for the “nuts” in the world. I am one myself.
I LOVE your decor for Thanksgiving and it is a true, one-of-a-kind piece. You are SO original with this idea.
Can’t wait to read your next post…

Oklahoma is 100 Yrs Old Nov. 16. Yippee!
I’ve been reading your blog and LOL-ing for a while now, but this one was just so funny that I had to tell you! LOL!!
Amanda (aka Cottage Contessa)
You’re such a nut. LOL
I’m glad to find someone with the same flair for Thanksgiving decorating!
Now all you’re missing is a nice home-made banner…
Your concept of “The Oracle Known as Steve” is one of my favorites! Very funny….
Oh lord.
So funny.
My decorations are posted today too :o)
You are gonna be so jealous!
I love the way the mini pumpkins and orange gourds bring out the auburn in The Oracle Known as Steve’s hair. The hat’s a tad big, but you never know when an oracle’s head might begin to swell, especially if you keep his portrait front and center on your mantle, so a little grow room’s a good thing.
That’s hillarious! Did you email a picture to the Oracle?
All hail The Oracle!
Oh, excellent. You’ve inspired me.
(I just found your blog. You are now on my List Of Favorites. Be Afraid).
Oh dear!
Oh, I enjoy this blog sooooo much. THank you. Thank you. THank you!
OK, why do YOU have a portrait of The Oracle? Shouldn’t he have it? Or did he give a copy of it to y’all?
The portrait of the Oracle was painted by one of the Oracle’s sisters – Lois as an excercise in an art class. When I saw the painting I got down on my hands and knees and begged her to give it to me, because I needed it very very badly for my Thanksgiving decor and for my life’s over meaning and spiritual direction.
I still have my Halloween decorations up!!!!! I am in denial that the xmas season is about to officially begin!!!!
You should have gone to your sister’s house — she’s got some cute pumpkins there. I like Betty Lou Best.
That was so much fun!! Thanks for the grins!!
